The Rutgers University Athletic Department announced civil engineering major Michael Rexrode of the men's lacrosse team was awarded the prestigious Big Ten Conference Medal of Honor at the fourth annual RAwards at the Rutgers Athletic Center on Tuesday night.
According to the announcement, Rexrode has been the backbone of the men's lacrosse team's defense throughout his career and earned First Team All-Big Ten honors the past two seasons. He was also named the 2018 Defensive Player of the Year. A two-time team captain, he was a Senior CLASS Award Finalist, member of the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, and was recently recruited as a second round draft pick to play professional lacrosse for the Florida Launch. An All-American in 2017, he has started in every career game played.
Rexrode is also a recipient of the Herbert and Pauline Goodkind Endowed Scholarship, established by the family of Michael Goodkind (1965 civil and environmental engineering graduate) who is a two-term member of the School of Engineering's Industry Advisory Board. The scholarship is awarded to undergraduate student-athletes, with a preference to those majoring in engineering or the sciences, participating in intercollegiate athletics who remain in good academic standing.
