The Office of Student Development (OSD) strives to support the students of the engineering community both professionally and personally. The OSD offers numerous pre-college programs that introduce Rutgers’ engineering program to a diverse and talented group of middle school and high school students. Current undergraduate students take advantage of the OSD’s academic advising and non-academic counseling, including support on issues as disparate as class scheduling, time management, housing, and succeeding in a rigorous and intensive engineering curriculum.

The OSD has an open-door policy that encourages students to come by Engineering B-110 whenever they need a helping hand. The OSD staff also connects students with appropriate resources around Rutgers.

In short, the OSD is here to help students succeed!

Undergraduates
  • Personal/Academic Advising

The Office of Student Development has an open door policy for advising. Students can stop in anytime Monday - Friday between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm and speak with one of the deans or advisors. If you would like to make an appointment, please call 732-445-2687 x10.

  • Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF)

The SoE EOF Program offers financial and academic assistance to low-income New Jersey residents who show potential and exhibit evidence of academic and/or creative promise, but who lack adequate resources for college. SoE EOF, with funding from the state and the college, provides students with a network of academic, financial, personal, and professional support services that are essential for success in college. For more information about the SoE EOF program, please contact Dr. Ilene Rosen or Dr. Evelyn Laffey.

  • Women in Engineering Initiatives

The mission of the Rutgers University Women in Engineering Initiative (RU WEI) is to provide support for future and current female engineers and to engage various stakeholders in women in engineering programs. RU WE has four objectives: (1) to recruit young women into engineering; (2) to provide support for currently enrolled female engineering students; (3) to link various stakeholders in an effort to enhance the diversity of the engineering workforce; and (4) to contribute to existing research frameworks. For more information, please contact Candiece White and visit our website.

  • Methods of Inquiry

Methods of Inquiry for Engineers (MoI) provide students with the opportunity to explore various studying, test taking, problem solving and time management techniques. Students will be exposed to various research initiatives that document learning and understanding in technical fields of study. Overall, students will develop a system of thinking strategies and critical analytical problem solving skills that are applicable across the engineering curriculum. MoI will be offered in both spring and fall semesters. Please contact Michael Brown for more information.

  • Study Group & Tutoring

The Office of Student Development provides access to academic support in the classroom through study groups and tutoring. Study groups allow peers to meet weekly to study, prepare, and organize course materials with the support of graduate facilitator. Out tutoring program offers group and individual support to help strengthen knowledge of engineering concepts and strategies. To request a Study Group please fill out the Study Group Request Form. To request tutoring for an engineering course please fill out the Tutor Request Form.

  • Students with Disabilities

The OSD provides student-centered and student-inclusive programming in compliance with the ADA and Section 504. All accommodations for engineering students are handled by our office. The OSD works with the university to provide services in a manner that promotes independence and inclusion in all aspects of university life. For more information on requesting accommodations, please visit our information website. University policies and procedures can be found by visiting the website.

  • Scholarship Information and Application

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit, community service, as well as financial need. Scholarships are for RETURNING students only, not incoming students. Please complete the application in its entirety. It is in your best interest to provide as much information as possible for the review committee

  • Engineering Education
Our Engineering Education initiative is to collaborate with colleagues and students from K-12 schools, universities/colleges, industry, government, and foundations in cultivating a diverse and talented community of engineers. We provide support and resources for K-16 educators who are interested in engineering. There are various K-12 resources for the classroom, summer and academic year programs for students, and information for parents. We welcome the opportunity to work with K-16 educators to improve the quality of engineering education for all students. Please visit our website for more information. For questions or requests, please contact Dr. Evelyn Laffey.
  • STEM for Education Scholarship Program
If you are an engineering or physics major, you have the unique opportunity to greatly impact our future! Share your love and knowledge of engineering and physics by becoming a high school math or physics teacher. STEM-ESP will prepare you to be America's greatest change agents. Once you graduate from the program, you will be ready to educate the next generation of innovators. Please visit our website for more information. For questions or requests, please contact Dr. Evelyn Laffey.

A place that made Rutgers School of Engineering feel smaller than it really was; due to the one on one attention of the counselors to students.

    Project Civility

Sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs and Undergraduate Education at Rutgers University - New Brunswick, Project Civility, an initiative created in order to encourage students to embrace the diversity represented on campus was launched in September 2010. By reminding students to consistently appreciate the values of courtesy, respect, compassion and understanding through community-wide efforts, Project Civility aims to shed light on the true meaning of civility by giving every member of the Rutgers community an opportunity to reflect their “better selves”. Project Civility is a two-year, university-wide dialogue at Rutgers University.

With the great strides taken to increase women’s involvement in the realm of science and engineering comes yet another challenge of meeting the demands to support and encourage women to stay on the path throughout their college education....More Information >>
