Dr. Scott Verbridge is an Assistant Professor in the Virginia Tech – Wake Forest School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences, and the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics. He additionally has affiliate appointments in Mechanical Engineering, the School of Neuroscience, and the Wake Forest Comprehensive Cancer Center. He earned B.S. degrees in physics and applied mathematics from the University of Rochester in 2002, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in physics from Cornell University in 2007 and 2008 respectively. Prior to joining the Virginia Tech faculty in 2012, Dr. Verbridge carried out postdoctoral work jointly in the departments of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering at Cornell.
The Verbridge lab at Virginia Tech works at the intersection of cell biology, tissue engineering, and cancer therapeutics, and this highly collaborative research has been supported by over $10 million in funding from the NSF, NIH, as well as state and industry sources. He has authored over 40 peer-reviewed papers in journals including Science, Nano Letters, and Biomaterials, in addition to numerous conference proceedings, archive papers, a co-edited book, and two patents. His published work has been cited over 5,800 times on Google Scholar.
Dr. Verbridge also teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses on biomedical engineering, quantitative cell biology, and cancer therapeutics. He has recently received the Virginia Tech Engineering Dean’s Award for Outstanding New Assistant Professor, and was a recipient of the 2017 NSF CAREER Award. In addition to his research and teaching efforts, Dr. Verbridge currently serves on the Editorial Board for the journal Scientific Reports, and as the faculty advisor for the Virginia Tech Graduate Student Chapter of the Biomedical Engineering Society.
